April 2007: RIP CURL BELLS BEACH EASTER PRO, Bells Beach and Johanna
I've gotta say Bells was hectic this year, all the Base shapers were in attendance including Gav. Murray and I had a good session surfing at Lowers (Winki pop), me and DH surfed down the beach from the 2nd car park at Johanna, we attended a Base sponsored surf camp, media night at Rip Curl, 35th Bells Contest Celebration Dinner, two more days at Johanna, Base shop meetings etc.
I did miss the last day of competition at Bells but managed to get boards under the feet of a few competitors, including a stellar Brazilian line up of new comers to the WCT Barnardo Miranda, Rodrigo Dornelles, Leonardo Neves (placed 9th) and returning legend Neco Padaratz.
I did catch up with AI prior to leaving and its no secret he was on an S Board for the epic last day at Bells (see ASP website). With the exception of Rodrigo (SXE rounded pin) all boards supplied were the new rocker XFC model single concave rounded square tails (none of the surfers mentioned except for Dayyan and Bottle are Simon Boards team riders).
